PRE CHRISTMAS CLUB CAPTAIN’S REPORT
Just a quick update on what has been happening since my last report, the club has had another friendly against Hull and District which I am pleased to report we won. We are hoping that they will return soon for a re-match.
The Men’s teams have had mixed fortunes, the first division match with Thornaby went well with our Men’s Captain winning his rink with a wonderful last bowl giving us 12 points to 2 victory. Our game against Selby has been re-arranged for the New Year due to the club hosting a “Neutral Territory” ladies Atherley Trophy match between Lincolnshire and County Durham, with the Lincolnshire Ladies winning by one shot with the very last bowl of the match. The Club were also big winners as the game helps put us on the map with clubs and players outside of our county and probably more importantly brought significant cash in to our club funds. Without finance from these types of games we would all be digging deeper in our own pockets to keep our club going!
The Denny Cup team won their first two rounds before unfortunately losing to York on an extra end after the game was drawn 71 all.
Our under 25 men’s team had a magnificent win in their second round game against Hartlepool, the first round was a walkover sadly as Darlington were unable to raise a team despite the competition being reduced from 2 rinks to 2 triples. Our lads will now play Boston in the next round so we wish them all the best of luck.
Our Ladies have had a mixed bag winning against a very strong Redcar team, but unfortunately not doing quite so well in other games.
Our Men’s over 60’s double rink have won their first two rounds against North Cave and Hornsea and will play York A in the next matc on December 12th. Good luck and sorry I will not be here to play with you in this game, but no doubt over 55’s captain Peter Brooks will find a more than suitable replacement.
The Club competitions start soon so keep an eye open for some cracking matches resulting from the recent draw, thanks to June Colbourne for being our “neutral party” for the draw.
I would like to wish you everyone members and staff all the very best for Christmas and the New Year.
Regards Alan Catterson
PS Not long before the Club’s Christmas Draw so your chance to be a winner is running out of time. A huge well done to Brenda and her helpers for all their work with the draw and to all those who have donated prizes
CLUB CAPTAIN’S REPORT
We have just played our first friendly’s of the season, and I can say without any doubts that all who have played enjoyed both games, so to those of you who did not play you have missed out on some good bowling and good fun. Plenty of “banter” on both days with our now new friends from New Earswick and Titchfield bowling clubs.
I am very happy to report that we won both games on overall shot difference, beating New Earswick by 92 to 72 and Titchfield by 202 to 103, however on Saturday we only won 2 rinks out of six, with one drawn. So a very big well done to “Alan’s Angels” our all ladies rink for a top rink of 26 to 6 (Eileen Hornsey, Lynn Baker, Pam Miller and Sheila Worsley) as this score carried the day.
Sunday was an easier victory as the score suggests, but Titchfield B C is predominately and out door club, our top rink in this game was John Buckle’s team of Stuart Stamford, Angie and Les Luntley and himself.
A big thank you to all who played and especially those who came in to the teams at short notice helping not only myself, but the Club. These games generate good income for the Club, which is really needed. If we do not support these games the money raised will have to be found elsewhere!!!
Several players asked if we could have some friendly’s away as well so I will be putting up a list for all those who would be interested in an away game. The benefit of this is twofold as not only will we have a great day out but it should encourage other club’s to have a return fixture with us so raising more funds for the club.
